Every year in June, the Sanno Festival, one of the three main festivals of Japan, is held here at the Hie Jinja. It is also renowned as a power spot, since it is said to be the guardian of Tokyo. At Hie Jinja, monkeys are the messenger of the deities. They are believed to bring good fortune, hence the stone statues and good luck charms in the form of monkeys.
